Health Minister requests promptly clarifying medical incident’s cause

    On the morning of May 30, Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien visited Bach Mai Hospital to visit and encourage patients in the recent hemodialysis incident.

    Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien highly appreciated the coordination of the Provincial Party Committee, the People's Committee of Hoa Binh province, the Police and relevant agencies regarding the above incident.

    The Minister shared with his colleagues that this was an unexpected and heartbreaking incident, and the cause must be found to overcome it.

    In the face of this serious incident, with the conscience of a physician, relevant departments must report honestly, objectively, dare to do, dare to take responsibility. The health sector of Hoa Binh province needs to closely coordinate with the investigation agency to clarify the cause.

    Dr. Truong Quy Duong, Director of Hoa Binh General Hospital, took responsibility before the Minister for the above serious medical incident, saying that he had coordinated with the Provincial Police to provide all samples as requested.

    The hospital and the provincial Department of Health have established a professional council, inviting experts from Bach Mai Hospital to analyze and find the cause. The relevant departments have explained, the supply department reported on the supplies used for the RO water purifier.

    According to Dr. Truong Quy Duong, one day before the incident (May 28), the provincial General Hospital and the drug supplier took advantage of Sunday to stop the patient's dialysis for periodic maintenance and repair of the machine.

    At the meeting, Mr. Tran Quang Khanh, Director of the Department of Health of Hoa Binh province, proposed to soon restore the Artificial Kidney Department of the Hospital to reduce the number of patients having to go to the Central level. Currently, Hoa Binh Provincial General Hospital has more than 100 patients regularly undergoing dialysis. The recovery time will take at least 10 days.

    Regarding the investigation, Colonel Pham Van Su, Deputy Director of the Hoa Binh Provincial Police, said that this is a complicated case. The provincial police are making the utmost efforts, focusing on the investigation to clarify the cause as soon as possible.

    Considering that initial research has signs of a crime, the provincial police have initiated a case to investigate and clarify according to legal regulations and will try to hand over everything to the hospital as soon as possible.

    Colonel Pham Van Su requested the hospital to coordinate with the investigation agency, providing specific relevant information such as the water purifier operation process, repair decision, acceptance, inspection, and handover of the system; standard samples (water, filtrate) to serve appraisal and comparative research. At the same time, the Deputy Director of the Hoa Binh Provincial Police proposed to the Minister of Health to direct specialized agencies to actively coordinate with the investigation agency to clarify the cause in an objective, fast and accurate manner.

    Previously, Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, along with the working delegation and leaders of the People's Committee and the Department of Health of Hoa Binh province, visited some families whose relatives died in Hoa Binh city; visited the remaining patient who was not transferred to a higher level because of poor health and is receiving emergency treatment at the provincial General Hospital. Doctors from the Intensive Care Unit of Hoa Binh General Hospital said that the patient's health is currently improving./.
