WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Adult:
Olanzapine is used in the treatment for schizophrenia.
Olanzapine is effective for the maintenance of clinical improvement when continuing in treatment with Olanzapine in patients who have responded to the first treatment.
Olanzapine is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe symptoms of mania.
In patients with mania symptoms that adapt to olanzapine therapy, olanzapine is used to prevent recurrence in patients who have bipolar disorder.
HOW TO TAKE EGOLANZA
Adult:
Schizophrenia: The recommended starting dose is 10 mg olanzapine daily.
Mania Stage: The starting dose is 15mg, once daily for single dose or 10mg per day for combination dose.
Prevent recurrence in bipolar disorder: The recommended starting dose is 10mg / day. For patients taking olanzapine to treat mania episode, continue this treatment with the similar dose to prevent recurrence. If one mania stage, combination or new depression occurs, treatment with olanzapine (at the optimal dose) should be continued with adjuvant therapy to treat mood symptoms according to clinical status.
During the treatment of schizophrenia, the mania episode and relapse prevention in bipolar disorder, the daily dose can then be adjusted depending on the clinical status of each patient, in around 5-20mg/day. Only increasing the dose higher than the recommended initial dose after having appropriate clinical assessment and for at least 24 hours.
When stop using olanzapine, the dose should be reduced slowly.
Elders:
There is no need for a low starting dose (5mg/day) for all elderly patients but should be considered for older people over 65 year olds who have clinical symptoms that are not favorable.
Patients with renal failure and/or liver failure:
It should be considered taking a low initial dose (5mg) for these patients. In case of moderate liver failure (cirrhosis, type A or B according to the Child-Pugh classification), a starting dose of 5 mg should be used and be cautious when increasing the dose.
Olanzapine can be used without regarding to meals due to the absorption of drugs unaffected by food.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Patients are sensitive to any ingredient of the drug.
Patients who already know the risk of glocomatism.
Do not use olanzapine for children and adolescents under the age of 18 due to lack of data on safety and effectiveness.
